I'll Never Lose Her Now She woke up fumblin'---lookin' for another cover--- she said her feet were cold. I know I should get up---the pilot light's out again--- but I lay here listenin' to this December wind. And all she knows is she'll never lose me now. When I was younger I used to dream---I used to wonder--- tryin' to picture this. I never imagined this kind of achin' cold--- I don't know how it happened, but we're finally gettin' old. And all I know is I can't lose her now. I hear her whispering in her sleep None of it makin' any sense Or is it my imagination Maybe I almost fell asleep Maybe she never said a word Maybe there's no explanation Interlude The early mornin' city sounds---through our window--- bring me back again. The frost in the air was never quite like this--- and closing my eyes as it carries me off in bliss--- all I know is I'll never lose her now. All I know is I'll never lose her now. by Dwight Newman © 2000 Sandthistle Music / ASCAP "I'll Never Lose Her Now" was written by my brother Dwight and is performed here by Dwight. I perform a take of it on my album "The Sandhill Waltz", which can also be heard here as a download along with an informal-demo version. The original version was written years ago- approximately '81, '82, and then recently in the past 7 years or so has been re-written and polished up a bit lyrically. Dwight's first take here contains a bridge that I leave out for the version that I perform. The second take available for download here is from about '97 or '98, and at that time was called "I Can't Lose Her Now", and didn't have the bridge and the "She'll never lose me now" and "I'll never lose her now" lines. You can also hear Dwight perform "Wish You Knew" - a song we co-wrote, and also two other songs of his - "How Long" and "The 103rd Psalms" that are also available here for download. |
